Why the small fixes come first
A rejuvenation treatment restores flexibility to dry shingles. That helps a sound roof last longer. It can't hold down a shingle that has already come loose. It won't close a gap around a vent pipe either.
So the repairs happen first. Then the treatment goes on a roof that's tight.
Anyone who has done remodeling knows you don't paint over rot. You fix it, then you finish it. Roofs work the same way.
Small problems are the ones that grow into leaks. A lifted shingle lets wind get under the next one. A cracked seal at the chimney lets water run down inside the wall. Catching those early is easy. Catching them after a summer storm is a different story.
What the tune-up covers
Three kinds of repair, all done on treatment day before we spray.
Chimneys, walls, vent pipes and skylights. The sealant around them often gives out before the shingles do.
Nails that backed out of the decking and are pushing up the shingle above. Each one is a small hole waiting for rain.
Shingles whose seal strip let go in the wind. We secure them so the next gust can't peel them back.
How the tune-up fits into the job
- 01We find it
During the free assessment, the owner notes every loose shingle, popped nail and tired seal he sees. That list becomes the tune-up plan.
- 02Repairs go first
On treatment day, the fixes happen before anything gets sprayed. No shortcuts on this part.
- 03The treatment goes on
Then the soy-based treatment is sprayed over the shingles. On a mild day it's tack free in about 30 minutes and ready for foot traffic in about an hour.
- 04Ask for a record
Ask us for a written record of the work, which can help if your insurance agent asks.
What a tune-up can fix, and what it can't
A tune-up handles
- A handful of shingles that lifted in the wind
- Popped nails pushing up the shingle above
- Dried-out sealant at vent pipes, walls and chimneys
- Exposed nail heads on flashing that need sealing
- Small gaps where wind-driven rain could get in
Bigger than a tune-up
- Soft or sagging decking under the shingles
- Leaks coming from rotted wood
- Large areas of shingles torn off in a storm
- Shingles so brittle they crack when lifted
- A roof that has reached the end of its life
Why the tune-up and treatment go together
A tune-up by itself fixes today's problems. The shingles keep drying out, though, and the same issues come back.
The treatment goes after the cause. APEX-1132 is made to slow the aging of asphalt shingles. It reacts with the aged asphalt to restore some of its flexibility. Put the two together and you get a roof that's tight now and holds up longer.
Each treatment can add up to about 5 years of life, and each one comes with a 5-year transferable warranty. We give you the written terms before work starts. You can repeat it for up to about 15 extra years in total.

Why Piedmont roofs need it
Our summers are hard on roofs. Attics get hot by midafternoon. Shingles and decking swell in the sun and shrink overnight. That daily cycle works nails loose and wears out sealant. Then a thunderstorm rolls through with gusty wind and finds the weak spot.
Trees add to it. Pine needles and oak leaves pile up behind chimneys and in valleys. They hold water against flashing that was never meant to sit wet.
The tune-up is where we catch that wear before it shows up as a ceiling stain. To spot trouble from your yard, see our list of signs your shingles are drying out. The three repair pages above, flashing, nail pops and loose shingles, go into each fix in detail.
Common questions
What is included in a roof tune-up?
Our tune-up covers securing loose or lifted shingles, resealing flashing around chimneys, walls and vents, and fixing nail pops. It happens right before the rejuvenation treatment, so the treatment goes on a roof with no open gaps or loose pieces.
Does the tune-up cost extra?
The tune-up is included with the treatment. It's part of the one price you get after the free assessment, which is based mostly on your roof's square footage. For a ballpark before the assessment, try the instant estimate.
Can a tune-up fix a roof leak?
Sometimes. A small leak from a popped nail or a dried-out seal at a pipe is a tune-up fix. A leak from rotted decking or missing shingles needs bigger repairs, and the treatment won't fix it either. The assessment shows which one you have.
Can I get a tune-up without the treatment?
The tune-up is built into our treatment. If you only want a repair, call us at (336) 523-0113 and ask. We'll tell you whether it makes sense for your roof.
How long does the tune-up take?
It depends on how much the roof needs. On a typical house, the tune-up and the treatment together usually fit into one afternoon. We'll give you a better idea once we've seen your roof.
