What roof rejuvenation does
Asphalt shingles stay tough because of the oils in the asphalt. Years of Carolina sun and summer heat bake those oils out. The shingle gets stiff. Then it cracks, curls and sheds the little granules that protect it.
Rejuvenation puts some of that flexibility back. We spray APEX-1132, a soy-based treatment made by a team of scientists at SoyLei in Ames, Iowa. It soaks into the shingle instead of sitting on top like paint. You can read more about the soy roof treatment we use.
On a sound roof, a treatment can:
- Help dry shingles bend instead of crack
- Help shingles hold on to their granules
- Add up to about 5 years of life each time
- Get done in one afternoon on a typical house
Who rejuvenation is for
Good fit when
- You have asphalt shingles, either architectural or 3-tab
- The shingles look dry or faded but still lie flat
- You're finding some granules in the gutters
- Nothing leaks and the decking feels solid
- You want more years out of the roof before paying for a new one
Not a fit when
- The roof is metal, tile, slate or a flat membrane
- Water is already coming through the ceiling
- Big sections of shingles are missing or torn
- The decking is soft or sagging
- Shingles have curled so far they won't lie down
How a job goes
Four steps. Once the assessment is done, the work itself usually fits in one afternoon.
- 01Free assessment
We look at your shingles, granule loss, flexibility and flashing. You get a straight answer on whether the roof is a good candidate.
- 02Tune-up
Before any spray goes on, we fasten loose shingles, put fresh sealant on the flashings and fix any nail pops. That part is included.
- 03Treatment
We mix APEX-1132 with water and spray it evenly over the shingles. On a warm day it's ready for foot traffic in about an hour.
- 04Warranty
Each treatment comes with a 5-year transferable warranty, and we give you the written terms before work starts.
Cost compared with a new roof
A new roof in the Asheboro area often runs $20,000 to $25,000 or more. Rejuvenation usually costs around 20% of that. We price every job by the square footage of the roof. No packages, no add-ons to talk you into.
The real question is what you get for the money. A new roof resets the clock. A treatment buys a sound roof up to about 5 more years, and you can treat it again later for up to about 15 extra years in total. That time lets you save for the new roof on your schedule, not the roof's.
See what moves the price on our roof rejuvenation cost page, or get a range for your address with the instant estimate. The full day, start to finish, is on how roof rejuvenation works.
We don't sell new roofs, so we've got no reason to push you into one. We also won't spray a roof that a treatment can't help. You'll get a plain answer either way.

Why one service, and why this product
Our owner has spent almost 20 years in the trades. He started in remodeling, worked as a North Carolina Class B general contractor, then built and sold a fence company right here in Asheboro. The big lesson he took from all of it: doing one thing well beats doing everything.
So Roof Armor does roof rejuvenation and the tune-up that goes with it. He's a numbers guy, and he picked APEX-1132 because it comes from scientists with test data behind it. Check that data yourself on our lab results page, or read our story.
We work out of Asheboro and cover towns within roughly 40 miles, including Randleman, Archdale and Greensboro. The full list is on our service areas page.
Common questions
How much does roof rejuvenation cost in Asheboro?
It usually runs around 20% of what a new roof would cost, and replacement around Asheboro often comes to $20,000 to $25,000 or more. We price by the roof's square footage, so your number depends on size, pitch, stories and whether the roof qualifies. The instant estimate gives you a range.
How long does roof rejuvenation last?
Each treatment can add up to about 5 years of life to a sound asphalt shingle roof. A second and third treatment, spaced about 5 years apart, can stretch that to up to about 15 extra years. The roof's condition when we start decides how much of that you get.
Does roof rejuvenation work on metal or flat roofs?
No. APEX-1132 is made for asphalt shingles, and that's the only kind of roof we treat. Metal, tile, slate, flat and membrane roofs are out. If your house has a shingle roof with a flat porch roof attached, only the shingle part is a candidate.
Is roof rejuvenation worth it?
Yes, when the roof is old enough to be drying out but still in one piece. It costs a fraction of replacement and pushes that big bill back by up to about 5 years per treatment. It isn't worth it on a roof that's leaking or at the end of its life. The free roof assessment tells you which one you have.
