Roof rejuvenation in Asheboro, from right down the road
Asheboro is home. Our base sits on US 220 south of town, on the stretch between Asheboro and Seagrove. Downtown and Sunset Avenue are about 15 minutes up the road.
Our owner has worked in the trades for almost 20 years. He started in remodeling. Later he built Apex Fencing right here in Asheboro, grew it to eight crews, and sold it in January 2026. What he learned along the way: one trade, done well, beats doing everything. Roof Armor sticks to roof rejuvenation on asphalt shingles, and every treatment comes with a roof tune-up.
The product is APEX-1132, made by SoyLei. Iowa State University researchers created it and founded the company to make it. It's a soybean oil product. Sprayed on, it works down into dry shingles and reacts with the aged asphalt to restore some of the flexibility that heat and sun bake out. Our page on how the treatment works goes step by step.
What Asheboro's houses say about its roofs
Asheboro grew up around mills. Acme Hosiery Mills opened in 1909. Hosiery and furniture plants followed, and the Acme-McCrary complex grew to cover several downtown blocks.
Census Bureau estimates show the age of the housing. Close to half of Asheboro's homes were built before 1980, and about 15% went up in the 1950s alone. More than half of the homes in town are rented.
Here's what that means up on the roof:
- House age is not roof age. A 1955 house may be on its third set of shingles. We judge the shingles, not the deed.
- Rental roofs get missed. Tenants don't climb ladders. If you own a rental or two, our page for property managers and landlords covers budgeting and paperwork.
- Older homes often have a chimney. Chimneys and old vent pipes are where flashing tends to give out. The tune-up reseals those before treatment.

Heat, Uwharrie trees and the September storm
Asheboro sits in the Uwharrie Mountains at about 846 feet. That doesn't make it cool. Summers here are hot and humid. A south-facing roof can take full sun for most of the day. That heat slowly cooks the oils out of asphalt. The shingles stiffen, then start dropping granules into the gutters. Our granule loss page shows what that looks like.
Trees cause the opposite problem. Big oaks and pines shade a roof and keep it damp. Damp roofs grow the black streaks you see on north slopes. Rejuvenation does not kill algae or moss, so a streaked roof needs cleaning first. The black streaks page covers the cleaning question.
Storms count too. On a Saturday afternoon in early September 2026, a severe thunderstorm knocked down hundreds of trees across Asheboro and affected more than 40 streets. The city declared a state of emergency the next morning. If a limb came down on your roof, you need a repair and a call to your insurance company. A treatment can't fix broken shingles or a punctured deck.
Downtown and the blocks around it
Downtown Asheboro packs a lot of history into a few blocks. The Asheboro Downtown Historic District went on the National Register in 2022. It takes in parts of Sunset Avenue and Church, Fayetteville, Salisbury and Worth Streets. In 2015, the North Carolina chapter of the American Planning Association named Sunset Avenue a Great Main Street.
Storefronts and old mill buildings may or may not be our kind of job. If a building has a flat or membrane roof, our product isn't made for it. The houses on the streets around downtown are a different story. Most homes in this part of the state carry 3-tab or architectural asphalt shingles, and that's exactly what we treat.
How an Asheboro job usually goes
Most homes in town take one visit for the assessment and one afternoon for the work.
- 01Get a ballpark
Try the instant roof estimate to see a range, or call (336) 523-0113.
- 02Free assessment
We walk the roof, look at granule loss, bend a shingle to test flexibility and check every flashing. Then we tell you what we found.
- 03Tune-up
We fasten down any loose shingles, reseal worn flashing and fix nail pops. That part comes before any spray goes on.
- 04Treatment
APEX-1132 is mixed with water and sprayed on. In 70 to 80 degree weather the surface loses its tack in about half an hour, and you can walk on it after about an hour.
If your roof is worn out, you'll hear it at the assessment. Rejuvenation and tune-ups are all Roof Armor sells. We make nothing extra if you replace your roof, so we have no reason to steer you there. Soft decking or missing shingles need a roofer.
All over Asheboro, and next door
We cover all of Asheboro, from downtown out Zoo Parkway to the North Carolina Zoo on Purgatory Mountain. Lake Reese and Lake Lucas, which supply city water, are well inside our usual drive.
Asheboro is the center of our map. These neighbor towns have their own pages:
- Randleman, about 15 minutes north on I-73
- Ramseur, east on US 64
- Seagrove, a few miles south of our base on US 220
Wondering about price? Our cost page explains how we price by square footage. Around here, a typical replacement runs $20,000 to $25,000 or more. Rejuvenation usually lands near 20% of that number.
Common questions
Is Roof Armor actually based in Asheboro?
Yes. You'll find us at 4941 US Highway 220 S, Asheboro, NC 27205, south of town toward Seagrove. Call us at (336) 523-0113. Office hours run 8am to 6pm on weekdays and 9am to 3pm on Saturday.
My Asheboro house was built in the 1950s. Is the roof too old to treat?
Not because of the house. A 1950s home has almost surely been re-roofed since then. What counts is the shingles on it now. Are they still flat, sealed and holding their granules? We check that at the free assessment. Our candidate checklist walks through the same signs.
Can rejuvenation fix damage from the September 2026 storm in Asheboro?
No. Torn shingles, dents from falling limbs and holes in the decking need a repair, and maybe an insurance claim. Call your insurance company first about storm damage. Once the damage is fixed, the rest of the roof may still be a good fit for treatment if the shingles are sound.
