The 7 questions
Write the answers down. A good company won't mind.
- 01What product are you using, and can I see the data sheet?
You want a product name, a maker and a data sheet with test results. 'Our own special blend' isn't an answer.
- 02Is the warranty in writing?
A spoken promise is hard to collect on. Ask for the warranty on paper before the job starts, and read what it covers.
- 03Does the warranty transfer if I sell?
If you might sell in the next few years, a transferable warranty can help with buyers. Ask how the transfer works.
- 04Is the tune-up included?
Loose shingles, nail pops and worn flashing should be fixed before anyone sprays. Find out if that's in the price or extra.
- 05What happens if it rains?
Ask how they plan around weather and what they do if rain hits soon after spraying. 'We'll figure it out' is a weak answer.
- 06Will you tell me if my roof isn't a candidate?
Ask what kinds of roofs they turn down. A company that says every roof qualifies is selling, not checking.
- 07What paperwork do I get for my insurance agent?
A record of the tune-up and treatment can help when your carrier asks about roof condition. Ask what you'll get.
Good answers vs. red flags
| Item | Good answer | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Names the product and maker, shows the data sheet | A house blend with no name and no test data |
| Warranty | In writing, with terms you can read | Verbal only, or 'lifetime' with no details |
| Price | A range up front, final price after seeing the roof | A firm price with nobody ever looking at the roof |
| Your roof | Tells you plainly when treatment won't help | Says every roof qualifies |
| Insurance | Gives you records and tells you to ask your agent | Promises your insurance company will accept the roof |
| Pressure | Gives you time to think it over | A discount that only lasts if you sign today |
How Roof Armor answers them
Fair is fair. Here are our answers:
- Product: APEX-1132 by SoyLei, a team of scientists in Ames, Iowa. Every number on the data sheet is explained on our lab results page.
- Warranty in writing: Each treatment comes with a 5-year transferable warranty, and we give you the written terms before work starts.
- Transferable: Yes. Ask us how the transfer works. More on the warranty page.
- Tune-up: Included. Loose shingles, nail pops and flashing sealant get handled before we spray.
- Rain: We only spray in mild, dry weather, and we move the date if rain is likely before the treatment dries. If rain hits soon after spraying, ask us at your assessment.
- Will we say no: Yes. The owner does every assessment himself, and he'll tell you if your roof needs replacing instead.
- Insurance paperwork: Ask us for a written record of the work for your insurance agent. We never promise what a carrier will decide. More on that in aging roofs and homeowners insurance.
A few more things worth checking
The seven questions cover the job. These cover the company:
- Insurance. Ask if they carry it. Roof Armor is fully insured.
- Track record. Look them up with the Better Business Bureau. Roof Armor is BBB accredited with an A+ rating.
- Who shows up. Ask who does the assessment. At Roof Armor, it's the owner.
- Roof types. A good company will tell you this only works on asphalt shingles.
Still deciding whether treatment makes sense at all? Start with rejuvenation vs. replacement or the candidate checklist.
These questions aren't a trap for anybody else. They're the same ones we'd ask if we were hiring someone to work on our own roofs.
Common questions
Is roof rejuvenation a scam?
The treatment is real, and the good products publish test data. The risk is in who sells it. Watch for no product name, no written warranty, promises about insurance, and claims that every roof qualifies. Ask the seven questions on this page and you'll sort out most of it.
How do I check out a roof rejuvenation company?
Ask for the product name and data sheet, get the warranty in writing, and look the company up with the Better Business Bureau. Roof Armor is BBB accredited with an A+ rating. Then see if they'll tell you plainly when a roof isn't worth treating.
What should a roof rejuvenation warranty cover?
Read it for four things: how long it lasts, what it covers, whether it transfers to a buyer, and what voids it. Physical damage and other trades cutting into the roof are common exclusions to ask about. Also ask who stands behind it if the company closes up shop. For Roof Armor's answer, ask us at your assessment.
Should I get more than one quote for roof rejuvenation?
It never hurts. Compare the product, the warranty terms and what's included along with the price. A cheaper spray with no data sheet and a verbal warranty isn't a bargain. Our roof rejuvenation cost page explains how we price ours.
