What a good inspection should tell you
A roof inspection should answer one question. How much good life is left in this roof?
Some free inspections are really sales calls. The answer comes back as a new roof, because a new roof is what that company sells. Our business is rejuvenation and tune-ups. We don't sell replacements, so we have no reason to push one.
That cuts both ways. If your shingles are too far gone for treatment, we'll tell you that too. A treatment on a roof that's done wastes your money and our time. We'd rather send you off with a clear answer than make a sale that doesn't hold up.
To book one, go to the free roof assessment page. It covers what happens on the visit.
What we check
Every assessment is done in person, up on the roof. Here's what we look at.
- 01Granule loss
How much of the gritty top coat is left on the shingles, and how much has washed into the gutters.
- 02Flexibility
A bend test on the shingles. A healthy shingle flexes. A dried-out one resists or snaps.
- 03Flashing
Chimneys, walls, vents and pipe boots. The sealant at these joints usually fails first.
- 04Nail pops and loose shingles
Anything lifted or backed out. These go on the tune-up list.
- 05Soft spots and decking
Spongy areas underfoot or sagging lines that point to wood problems under the shingles.
- 06Curling, cracks and streaks
Signs of age that tell how far along the shingles are.

The three answers you might get
At the end, you get a plain answer. It's usually one of these:
- Good candidate. The shingles are dry but sound. A tune-up and treatment make sense, and you get a price based on the roof's square footage.
- Nothing needed yet. The roof is in good shape. Keep an eye on it and check back down the road.
- Past treatment. The shingles or decking are too far gone. Rejuvenation won't help, and it's time to get replacement quotes.
Want a rough number before anyone climbs a ladder? The instant estimate measures your roof from satellite data and gives you a range. The final price comes after the assessment.
Our assessment is about your roof and whether it's a candidate for treatment. It isn't a full home inspection for a sale, and it isn't a storm damage claim inspection for your insurance company.
Why roofs here need a look
Asheboro and the rest of the Triad get long, hot summers with strong sun. Heat and UV break down the oils in asphalt shingles. Add humidity, afternoon thunderstorms and the odd hailstorm, and shingles wear from several directions at once.
Then there are the trees. Pines and oaks drop needles and leaves, shade the north side, and keep it damp. That's where dark streaks and moss usually show first.
None of that means your roof is done. It means it's worth a look before small wear turns into a big bill. If your carrier has asked about your roof, read aging roofs and insurance in NC. If you're about to list your house, start with selling a home with an older roof. Curious what happens after the assessment? See how rejuvenation works.
Common questions
Is the roof assessment really free?
Yes. You pay nothing and you're under no obligation. We look at the roof, tell you what we found, and tell you whether treatment makes sense. If it doesn't, that's the end of it, and you still walk away knowing where your roof stands.
Who does the roof inspection?
The owner handles every assessment in person. He has spent almost 20 years in the trades, starting in remodeling, and he built and sold a fence company in Asheboro before starting Roof Armor. You can read his story.
What if my roof needs to be replaced?
Then we'll say so. Rejuvenation only works on asphalt shingles that are aging but still sound. If the decking is soft or the shingles are worn out, a treatment won't fix that. You'll know before you spend anything.
Can you inspect my roof for my insurance company?
We can tell you what shape the roof is in, and you can ask us for a written record of any tune-up and treatment we do. Whether that meets your carrier's needs is up to them. Ask your agent what they want to see first. Our page on roof age and insurance explains more.
Do you inspect metal, tile or flat roofs?
No. The product we use works on asphalt shingles and nothing else. It isn't for metal, tile, slate, flat or membrane roofs, so we stick to asphalt shingle roofs.
